AGC COOK FOR A CAUSE

Australian Green Clean senior management took part in Oz Harvest's 'Cook for A Cause' afternoon. During the session the team produced 155 portions of delicious and nourishing meals for people in need within our community.

Cooking for over 3 hours, meals included Spaghetti Meatballs and Pear Crumble. Using entirely reclaimed food from local supermarkets and 3 crates of Pears from a pear orchard, the food used would have been thrown out without Oz Harvest. The meals made were delivered to local organisations and eaten the very same night.

Oz Harvest aligns with AGC not only in supporting local communities, but also with both organisations concentrating on zero waste. 7.6 million tonnes of food is wasted each year. Of that 7.6 million tonnes, 70% is still edible! Australian households throw out approximately 1 in 5 grocery bags that they purchase. Whilst households are throwing precious food out, 1 in 6 Australian adults haven't had enough to eat in the last year. Oz Harvest collect good quality surplus food from a network of donors including supermarkets, cafes, delis, hotels, airlines and restaurants, then deliver direct and free of charge to charities nationally. What an organisation!

"The afternoon was full of laughter, learning and team bonding for a great cause. It meant a lot for our organisation to play a small part in assisting our community in providing a warm meal to those in need. Zero waste is incredibly important to us as well, and being able to continually learn about food wastage and how we can all contribute at home can go a long way to helping our environment" said CEO Charlie Sykes.
