AUSTRALIAN GREEN CLEAN AND
RETURNTOWORKSA

At Australian Green Clean, we truly believe that we need to make waste to landfill a thing of the past. We work collaboratively with ReturnToWorkSA to divert significant tonnes of waste from landfill and help meet their environmental goals and to achieve significant cost savings.

Sustainable initiatives AGC has been working on with ReturnToWorkSA include supply of which bin waste educational materials (you can find these near the bins), change in bins in bathrooms to divert hand towel to organics, provision of recycled paper options and waste presentations.

Outlined below is some information on the waste streams and where this waste goes once it is collected.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WASTE

At Australian Green Clean, we truly believe that we need to make waste to landfill a thing of the past. AGC works collaboratively with ReturnToWorkSA to divert significant tonnes of waste from landfill and help meet their environmental goals and achieve significant cost savings.

All rubbished collected from ReturnToWorkSA is consolidated by our on site cleaners. You may notice your cleaner placing different bin liner bags within each other, but please do not be concerned as this is just the first step of the waste management process.

All collected mixed waste is then taken to the downstairs bin room where the bin bags are emptied into larger bins provided by the Building Managers. The bins include Organics, Paper & Cardboard, General & Comingled.

Other waste streams collected across RTWSA to manage unique waste include;

  • Batteries (battery bins are located in each utility Toner Cartridge Recycling

  • Paper towel in the bathrooms goes into the organics bin

  • Retired IT equipment is donated to the Department of Education

  • Old office furniture is recycled for reuse

Using the above bin streams has helped RTWSA to significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill each year.

WASTE STREAMS

WHAT IS ORGANIC WASTE?

Organic waste is organic material such as food, garden and lawn clippings. It can also include animal and plant based material, certified compostable packaging (look for packaging with the Seedling Logo) and degradable carbon such as timber. The recovery and recycling of garden and food organics reduces greenhouse gasses as well as water consumption, and protects our soil resources - one of the earth’s most complex and biologically diverse ecosystems.

WHAT HAPPENS TO ORGANIC WASTE?

Organic materials are collected by Jeffries where they force aeration composting including temperature and oxygen monitoring. The material is grinded and turned into compost soil and mulch. Compost and mulch is then purchased by businesses and individuals to fuel their gardens!
